Ethics Center Internship

Reflection: I started working at the Cincinnati Ethics Center the summer after I graduated from high school. It has been about two years since then, and while I have greatly enjoyed working with the Center, I had not really taken the time to reflect on why I worked there or what I was gaining from working there. The Cincinnati Ethics Center states, “The mission of the Cincinnati Ethics Center is to promote community engagement, education, and research on important ethical challenges both locally and globally. We bring together community members, students, staff, and scholars to foster dialogue, solve problems, and advance knowledge. Moral inquiry–about right and wrong, justice and injustice, character and integrity—should not be confined to the classroom.”. We engage in that mission statement by providing workshops to high schools, elementary schools, and other students here at the University of Cincinnati. What I primarily did was help with the K-12 workshops, write ethical explainers, and help facilitate the annual Regional High School Ethics Bowl in January. What I love about working at the Center is the programming. I like talking to high schoolers about how they view ethics. The point is not to change people's minds or influence them, it is to help them understand how to articulate what they already feel. I love that about the Center. I have also attached an Ethics Explainer that I did this semester during the experience.
